FUNIMATIONCON 2020: LESSONS FROM A VIRTUAL CON

Global anime conventions are a staple of Funimation’s fan engagement strategy, but the COVID-19 pandemic created a unique challenge in connecting with the devoted anime community. The solution? A first-ever online event. FunimationCon 2020 was created to bring anime fans together in a time when they couldn’t meet in person. The decision was made in April to create this virtual event in just eight weeks, leveraging Freeman as the agency and technology partner. The free, two-day virtual festival brought the spirit of the con experience into the homes of anime fans with panels, cosplay meetups, forums, and more.
